Wisdom For Polyethylene vol.21

21. Just Polyethylene, Yet Not Just Polyethylene

2025-12-04

The Most Cost-Effective Material to Protect Products

As manufacturers of polyethylene films and bags, we are constantly reminded that it is “just polyethylene, yet not just polyethylene.”

Polyethylene resin is one of the lowest-cost synthetic resins available. However, the polybags and packaging materials we produce are often destined for disposal once transportation is complete.

It is therefore natural that customers seek more economical options.
Even so, polybags are not mere packaging materials—they must meet basic performance requirements, such as being tear-resistant and leak-proof.
Although they are among the most affordable packaging materials, they embody technical know-how and expertise.

For example, in our chemical industry inner liner business, a bag rupture during transport can lead to serious operational problems.
Therefore, even when using general-purpose resins like polyethylene, careful material selection and processing technology are essential.

In recent years, materials that visually resemble polyethylene but are entirely different resins have been developed, making it increasingly important to analyze the properties of each resin accurately.

Resin Properties and Processing Technologies

To enhance the performance of polyethylene films, the following technologies are commonly employed:

(1) Use of Special Resins
Materials may appear to be polyethylene at first glance but can actually contain elastic components like rubbers or elastomers, offering superior durability and heat resistance.

(2) Use of Additives
During resin melting, additives such as colorants, antistatic agents, anti-rust agents, and anti-fog agents can be uniformly incorporated, providing a variety of functional properties to the final product.

(3) Secondary Processing Technologies
  • Multilayer technology (co-extruded multilayer films, laminates)
  • Orientation (stretching) processing to improve strength in both machine and transverse directions
  • Coating or vapor deposition to enhance barrier properties

Balancing Price Competition and Quality

Synthetic resin films are consumables and are highly influenced by price competition.
However, maintaining quality while controlling costs requires careful material selection and processing technology.

At our company, we continually pursue the optimal balance of price and quality, developing products tailored to the needs of our customers.
