16. About Antistatic Clean Bags
2025-06-16
Electrostatic protection is a very important topic for cleanroom personnel because static charges in the bag attract surrounding particles. In addition, electrical damage can also cause significant harm to customer contents. Therefore, the demand for anti-static types is high for "clean bags."
However, a major problem arises here. This means that the correlation between cleanliness and anti-static properties is inversely proportional.
Main methods of preventing static electricity
・Kneading method: Semiconductive and conductive materials such as surfactants, carbon, and copper are kneaded into the films.
・Coating method: Surfactant antistatic agents are coated onto the film surface.
・New type: A kneading method in which semipolar polymers are kneaded into the film.
These three methods are the main approaches.
However, in the case of surfactant kneading, the surfactant (antistatic agent) in the film volume can migrate to the film surface and form powder, generating a large amount of particles. In addition, metals such as heavy and light metals are present in the case of kneading with carbon or semipolar polymers.
Therefore, bringing such films into a cleanroom can create significant problems for the semiconductor industry.
In the case of the coating method, the coatings can detach, and transfer or contamination problems remain. In conclusion, antistatic performance and cleanliness are often considered conflicting requirements.
Moreover, the production of antistatic types causes significant contamination of electrostatic antistatic agents as well as heavy and light metals in production machines.
For these reasons, we do not produce anti-static types in our clean bag line.
